When our third and final day came around, it was so windy that many of the trails in the high backcountry (where we had been planning on going) were dangerously impassable. We were bummed but knew that there were plenty of other beautiful places to explore. We decided to do hikes in the Logan Pass area instead. In hindsight, it was definitely a good choice.
More views from Going to the Sun Road. AHHH. How is this real?!? |
Left: My cousin Nate & his wife Sarah, who drove up with us from Utah. They are SO GREAT and Ryan & I love hanging out with them now that they live in SLC. Right: Uncle Bill snapping away. He told us he takes thousands of pictures a day. ALL IN RAW. *cue huge eyeballs* Oh how we love Bill.
Birdwoman Falls in a gorgeous hanging valley. |
Husband photobomb. |
The trail down to Hidden Lake was closed due to bear activity, but we decided to do the overlook anyways. The hike took us through Sound of Music-esque meadows and pretty pretty peaks. Plus, Sarah and Sarah J. petted the ground squirrels. #scabies
Mountain goats cooling down on the snow. Look at the lil' baby!! |
Finally reached the overlook! AMAZING VIEW. Oh my gosh. This park. I just can't.
We ate lunch at the overlook and soon attracted several chipmunks and groundsquirrels who had clearly been fed before. Much fun was had feeding them. As much as I disapproved, I still took pictures. I'm a bad person. I just pray they're still alive after all that white bread and cookies...
There were also mountain goats EVERYWHERE. We're pretty sure they've been paid to pose.
Looking down Hidden Creek Valley. |
Next was the Highline Trail, which was basically a walk more than a hike. The whole trail goes 12 miles, but we only went for a couple hours before turning around for dinner.
Those sunrays. I die. |
On our way back we spotted a marmot! He was awesome. But even awesomer was looking back at where he had come from and seeing a lil' baby marmot!!!
Wee baby marmot. [: |
This hike had views for DAYS. It traces the Going to the Sun Road, but it was just so much more incredible when you're walking along the wall of the valley as opposed to driving in a car.
Five minutes from the trailhead, we heard scrabbling and looked up to see these guys checkin' us out!
Golden sun on the meadows. Paradise.
Definitely a worthy hike to end our trip with. We loaded back into the van and headed back to Kalispell for Five Guys burgers (so. amazingly. good.) and reminiscing about the past three perfect days. In the morning it was back into the rental car and back to Provo.
I can still smell the sun on the meadows and see those amazing valleys in my mind's eye. MAN Earth is so great! This trip was pure soul food. I love this planet and spending time with my family so much!
Glacier National Park, we'll be back for you soon.
