Proud wife moments

Thursday, July 3, 2014

This is from the night we went to In-N-Out and Art City Donuts to do some celebrating for a lot of different things. One reason was Ryan's new buzz cut, which he loves because it makes him feel like he's beating his balding head to the punch. [: The others were two amazing accomplishments of my husband.
The longer I am married to this man, the more I am totally amazed by him. Every day I gain more respect for him.
One of the first things I noticed about Ryan when I first met him was that everybody in the ward knew him. And I mean everybody. I can think of several reasons why. He's loud, for one. Like, sometimes unbelievably haha. [: He's confident and hilarious, but rarely at the expense of someone else. He can work a room like nobody else I know. He's the life of the party because people are drawn to the way he makes them feel included, interesting, and liked. He cares about everybody and is genuinely interested in how people are doing and what's going on in their life. He's always inviting people to do things. He talks to strangers randomly and often makes them laugh (or sometimes the jokes go right over their head. Bahaha.) and generally leaves people happier than they were before. He makes you feel like you're immediately friends.
Almost a year and a half later, I started to get to know him below the surface and found out things that most people didn't know about him. He's one of the hardest workers and hardest thinkers I've ever met. He's incredibly creative and always looks for ways to make something better - the best it can be. He can play the coolest, most confident person in the room even if he's not really feeling it. He makes a point of learning a little bit about every subject you can think of, purely so that he can talk to anybody about their interests, whatever they may be, and make a connection with them.
YEAH AND HE'S MINE. How does this guy think I'm so great?? Dang.
So anyways, this kid recently finished his undergrad(!!!!!) at BYU with a degree in
communications/emphasis in public relations and a minor in Spanish WITH A 3.7.
I am so proud of him.
His last class ever was Physical Science 100, a general ed class that he put off to the last minute. (Haha.) The physical sciences are just not his thing, which is hilarious to me because they're what I'm all about! We're seriously almost as opposite as you can get. Anyways, you may think that because he hated the class and it really wasn't at all pertinent to his field, he would slack off and barely scrape by. I won't put him on a pedestal too much - That WAS his initial goal. [: But this kid came out of his final exam with an A- in the class. He refused to not give his best effort. And I will take a little bit of credit for all the study sessions we had for each exam and the brilliant memory tricks I have for the life cycles of stars, types of rocks, speed of light, etc. [: But really, SERIOUS PROUD WIFE MOMENT.
Then came the moment of truth a week and a half later when I was in Sunriver and Ryan's internship was winding down. Background: In April Ryan quit his social media internship at Vivint, interviewed at a media company in Pleasant Grove, and was hired immediately for a business development internship. He absolutely LOVED it and the creativity and freedom he was given to pursue new marketing verticals for the company. He was told that after 3 or so months, he would be considered for a salary position. That time fell right during the Conger family reunion in Sunriver and as much as I hated it and he hated it, Ryan thought it would be best to stay. And sure enough, I got a call from him on the Friday of that week -
HE HAD A JOB OFFER.
A real, adult, salary job offer. And it was for more than we were expecting!
One of the best proud wife moments of my life to date. Holy moly.
We are feeling incredibly blessed and thank our Father in Heaven in every one of our prayers for the amazing opportunities we've been given. Next comes graduation for both of us in August (I'm walking early to make it easier on our families, plus BYU doesn't do graduation ceremonies in December), a possible move to be closer to Pleasant Grove, and then who knows what. An international graduation trip is in the works... but we'll see. [: Wow, are we really old enough to be doing this?
Life is so good, and we are so blessed.
